An American couple from California sought a London base from which they could immerse themselves in the city’s vibrant rhythm while easily travelling throughout Europe — a long-held dream. They discovered their ideal pied-à-terre within an elegant Art Deco mansion block in one of London’s most distinguished neighbourhoods.Studio LPID was commissioned to design and oversee the project in its entirety — a full refurbishment encompassing an open-plan living, kitchen, and dining space, along with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The brief called for a modern, refined apartment with a focus on minimal yet bold detailing, seamlessly integrated with state-of-the-art home technology for lighting, sound, heating, and security. The result is a sophisticated retreat that combines contemporary comfort with timeless design, perfectly tailored to the clients’ lifestyle.Photography: Billy Bolton
Modern apartment defined by a confident aesthetic
The kitchen surfaces are all made bespoke and show delicate craftsmanship. The cupboard fronts are wrapped in intricately textured sheets in gunmetal. This is paired with a slim line ceramic slab used for the worktop, emulating a rich Calacatta Oro marble. The minimal look is further achieved by (electronic) push to open drawers and doors, forgoing the need of handles. Attention to detail can be found elsewhere in the apartment, where bold colours take centre stage: The interior design included bespoke joinery, fitted and loose furniture, decorative lighting, window treatments down to interior styling to achieve a coherent scheme.
